Medical Science student, Sam Bedford, is set for a dream trip after winning the Royal Society International Expedition Prize at the BA CREST award ceremony in London.
Sam, who is in the second year of his Medical Science National Diploma, was presented with the prize of a two week scientific expedition to Borneo.
During the event, where he exhibited his award winning project on stem cell research in muscle atrophy, he had the opportunity to chat to Prince Andrew and a number of distinguished scientists.
In the future, Sam hopes to progress to a PhD, researching diseases that affect old age.
Science Lecturer, Linda Neal, said: "Sam deserves his success - his work and commitment have been outstanding.
"His phenomenal success story shows that vocational courses provide an serious alternative to A Levels as an excellent progression to academic eminence."
